Obituary for Wesley Reed Armstrong

Wesley Reed Armstrong of Rainy River Ontario passed away on March 25,2022 at the age of 70. He passed away from respiratory pneumonia after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia disease.

Reed was born on April 2,1951 in Pembroke Ontario while his father was stationed at Camp Petawawa. He graduated from Rainy River High School in 1969. In 1970 he hired on the CN Railroad as a brakeman. He later went to Gimli Manitoba where he took the locomotive engineer course. He worked on the railroad until his retirement in 2005 having worked for 35 years.

He met Angela Armstrong in 1982 and they were married in 1985.He had 4 children. Nicole, Aaron, Melissa and Tristan.

Reed was a force of nature and was determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything in the world, something he often mentioned. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren.

Reed was an avid curler, fisherman, hockey and baseball player. He could often be found on a golf course if he wasn’t at home. He also loved playing smear and often played in the smear tournaments at the legion on Saturday afternoons. He was also known to have a game or two in his garage which many people can attest to. He enjoyed listening to music and could be found in his garage listening to tunes or sitting in the backyard by the fire. He was a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Masonic Lodge. He loved spending time with his grandchildren Lilly, Ireland, Breannagh Blakeney and Jake Watson. Reed was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for.

Reed was predeceased by his father Frank(Bud) Armstrong his mother Della, brothers Donald and Glen, father in law Sylvester Armstrong and first wife Roxanne Armstrong(Edinger). He is survived by his wife of 37 years Angela his children Nicole, Aaron(Corinne), Melissa(Mike) and Tristan. His grandchildren Lilly (Nick Vogan), Ireland(Josh Furhur) , Breannagh Blakeney and Jake Watson along with great grand daughter Izabella Furhur.

He is also survived by sister Bonnie (Howard) Crowe, brother Wallace (Susan), and sister Cheryl (Gary/Nibs) Kreger mother in law Shirley Armstrong and sister-in-law Lisa Armstrong, along with numerous brother and sisters in law and countless nieces and nephews. Memorial donations can be made to the Rainy River Health Centre or the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.

A celebration of Reed's life will be held at the Rainy River Legion, Fourth St. Rainy River on Saturday, July 2 at
11 :00 a.m. with George Chojko-Bolec officiating.
