Obituary for Violet Moore (Petriuk)

Violet passed away peacefully on January 15, 2022 at Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, with her daughters at her side.
Violet Petriuk was born on February 7, 1934, in the town of Wakaw, Saskatchewan to Mary and Nick Petriuk.
She lived and attended school up to grade 4 in Ens, Saskatchewan. During these early years, Violet enjoyed her many aunts and uncles. Music and dance were a large part of their culture as well as the Greek Orthodox faith.
In 1945, Violet moved to Rainy River and attended Alexandria school. In 1946 her sister Shirley was born. After high school Violet worked for Dr. Fraser, a local Family Physician. In 1953 Violet married Ken Moore and they moved to Winnipeg where their two daughters, Kathleen and Susan, were born. Over the next several years Violet and Ken moved numerous times with Ken’s work.
During these years Violet worked for Robinsons in Beausejour. You could often find her with a paint brush in hand painting prefabricated houses for Beaver Lumber, along with her friend Alvin Hayes. Violet was very involved with the United Church.
In 1968 the family moved back to Winnipeg. Violet worked for Contessa, a women’s fashion store at Polo Park. She also taught Explorer’s at the United Church. During this time Violet enjoyed live theatre and a love of reading that spanned her life.
In 1977 Violet and Ken moved to Rainy River, and Violet was very involved with the community. She served on the Rainy River Library Board for over 25 years and worked for the Rainy River Drugstore for many years. She also enjoyed curling, golf and tending to her flowers. She often mentioned her love for her five girls, her two daughters and three granddaughters, whom she was very proud of. Family was everything. Her strong faith was a central part of who she was.
Those wishing to honour Violet’s memory may do so by donating to the Rainy River Public Library in Rainy River, Ontario.
A memorial service will be scheduled later.
