Stanley Morris Sandmoen
July 27, 1924 to July 11, 2021
Stanley was born to Mabel & Charlie Sandmoen and passed away on the same farm he was born on 96 years earlier.
The summer of 1954 he met his future wife and the love of his life, Beverly Olsen, while working at Red Deer Lodge in Nestor Falls. They married in 1954 and spent almost 67 years together.
They had 5 children—Cheryl Sandmoen Northcott (Roger), Darrell (Angel), Kevin, Greg and Murray. Grandchildren—Shaye Joseph, Michelle Northcott (Ian), Jessica Northcott. Great Grandchildren Stevie Nosal; Jett, Jaxx, Jaya & Jessa Northcott-Palker.
Stanley was predeceased by his brothers Walter, Wilburt, Kenneth, and Lloyd and by his sisters Clara Marr, Charlotte Ernst, and Gladys Fraser.
Stanley went to school at #3 Spohn School and went on to complete Grade 8. He stayed on the farm cut firewood, peeled cedar posts, and took care of the land and animals. He guided for 20 years on Lake of the Woods. The family moved away from the farm in Rainy in August 1966 so he could work in the bush. Stan and Bev lived in bush camps for many years after leaving the farm. They were the last family to leave Camp Robinson and took their house down the highway with them to Dryden where they still reside.
He was an avid outdoorsman; hunting deer, and fishing bodies of water such as Sabaskong Bay in Lake of the Woods, Lac Seul and Eagle Lake. Many a time he was the fisherman of the day.
He loved old country music, playing guitar and singing songs with his friends and other musicians.
Stanley made it his goal to make it greener wherever he lived. Starting in Rainy River at the farm. He easily planted over a thousand trees in his lifetime. Dad always carried a shovel and cardboard box in the trunk of his car in case he would spot a good lookin’ tree and when driving along he would suddenly stop the car, dig the tree up and replant where he was living at the time. The kids used to call him Stanley Appleseed.
Stanley loved his family and especially his Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren. He had many laughs chasing them around and teasing them. To them he was Poppa Stan and he was a fun Grandpa.
He had a sharp wit and always had an answer and quick joke for every discussion as many of his friends could attest to.

A graveside service will be held at the McInnes Creek Chapel this Friday, July 16 at 1:00 p.m.
