Obituary for Shannon Anne-Marie Jackson (Bliss)
Shannon Anne-Marie Jackson (nee Bliss); devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to so many, ended her journey on Tuesday October 11, 2022. She lived her life with positivity, love, and grit, meeting every challenge head on.
Shanny was born on January 31, 1971, in Fort Frances, Ontario to David “Buster” and Denise Bliss. She was a tiny bundle weighing just over six pounds, which gave no indication of the larger-than-life personality that she quickly grew into. She was known to be the “fireball” of the family; spicy and sweet.
Shanny’s love of animals began at age three when her dad granted her wish and gave her her first dog. Not many years later she would fall in love with horses too. Her involvement with the 4-H Club with her cousin Kim-Jo, eventually led to her owning her own horse, Brandy. Shanny was determined to prove to her dad that she was a responsible horse owner. This meant riding her bike from town to the barn three days a week and sometimes weekends - and she did it. This became typical of her personality - if Shanny said that she was going to do something - she did it. And she did it well.
Shanny attended Fort Frances High School and while there spent some time cheerleading. She perfected her “Herkie” jump and was proud to show off her moves some 30 plus years later at her son’s Muskie Hockey Tea. She loved to entertain! Shanny graduated in 1989 and from there attended St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario. Here she took the Animal Health Technician course and went on to work for Nor-West Animal Clinic for close to seventeen years. During this time, she developed lifelong friendships with her original crew of girls and of course with Dr. Dan and Dr. Chris.
It was after returning home to Fort Frances from college that Shanny met the love of her life, Derek “Freddy” Jackson. They married in 1997 and continued their journey through life together in Fort Frances and at the cabin on Caliper Lake. Together they raised two sons, Davis and Jace, whom Shanny was so deeply proud of. She loved to talk about their successes and share their stories with friends and family. Shanny also had a special relationship with her nephew Landon. Simply put - nothing made her happier than being with her family.
Shanny had many talents and was not afraid of a challenge. She had a true passion for fitness and this became her second career. She created her own personal training business and received certification in Nutrition. Shanny ran half-marathons, completed a full marathon, and loved strength training. So much so that she trained and prepped to compete successfully in four figure competitions. She competed in Women’s Figure Open, and Women’s Figure Masters and went to the Ontario Provincials twice. Shannon instructed many fitness classes over the years, and had many loyal clients. Her goal was to help others reach their fitness potential. She taught the P-Fit dual credit classes for Confederation College and Fort Frances High School as well as instructed the fitness course for the Paramedic program.
Shanny’s talents didn’t end there. From decorating, designing and building furniture (with Freddy’s help but her own tools), and creating porch pots with her sister Laureen (Beanie), her creativity knew no limits. She also had a giving spirit, volunteering her time to many. This included St. Francis Parent Council, Fort Frances High School Parent Council, The Catholic Women’s League, The Muskie Blueline Club, and vaccine clinics
Shanny’s energy was boundless, and she loved her life. Her husband Freddy often said, “Happy wife, happy life!” And she was, and it was.
Shanny is lovingly remembered by her husband Derek “Freddy” Jackson; sons Davis and Jace Jackson; Mother Denise Bliss; sister Laureen “Beanie” (Brent) and nephew Landon Lowes. As well as her Bonot and Bliss aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Shanny was a special daughter-in-law to Jim and Maureen Jackson, sister-in-law to Lorne and Kathie Jackson; Dale and Lianne Jackson; and remembered by her nieces Danielle, Sara, Katelyn, and Emma Jackson. Shanny also held close her relationship with cousins Tom and Wendy Jackson and Murray and Kathy Jackson and their families.
She was predeceased by her dad David “Buster” Bliss Jr.; her mother-in-law Karen Jackson; paternal grandparents David and Katie Bliss; her maternal grandparents Art and Dorothy Bonot; uncles Nevin and Bryan Bonot; Tony Bliss; Aunt Kathy Ralko (Bliss).
A Celebration of Life for Shanny will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 12:00 PM at La Place Rendevous, Fort Frances, Ontario.
