Obituary for Rose "Marie" Allen

On Monday, October 31, 2022, surrounded by her family, Rose Marie Allen (Minwejiwinok, Sagajigaabowiik) was called home to be with the creator.
Marie was born on November 9, 1934 at Crilly, Ontario to Anson Boshkaykin and Dorothy Boy of Seine River First Nation. She was married to George Harvey Allen and spent her life in Nigigoonsiminikanning First Nation. Together they had ten children, thirty grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She loved the Anishinaabe culture, working in the First Nation and with local organizations including Weechi-it-te-win Family Services elder’s council and Seven Generations Education Institute with their fall harvest. She lived a life of humility and never considered herself as an elder even though everyone addressed her as one. She was active in language revitalization with Lac Courte Orielle Tribal Government, Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and Nigigoonsiinikaaning Language Camp where she made friends with Anishinaabe from throughout Turtle Island. She loved sewing quilts for new born children on the First Nation, berry picking and wild rice picking in the fall, birch bark basket making and teaching Anishinaabe customs.
She will be greatly missed by Randy, Gail, Harvey (Brenda), Ron, Karen (Ken) Stewart (Melanie), Gary, Linda (Ken), Duane and Judy (Elton) as well as a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grand children. Her siblings include Josephine (Gerry) Potson, Hilda Boy, Cecelia (Al Dog) Henderson, Florence Boshkaykin, and half-brother Clifford Boshkaykin. She is also survived by her nephew Shawn Johnson of fort Frances. She had her dear cousin Rosie Boshkaykin who was practically a sister.
Marie was predeceased by her dad, Anson Boshkaykin and mother Dorothy Boy, uncle Jim and Lillian Boshkaykin, Husband George Harvey Allen, Grand-daughter Heidi Rose George, daughter-in-law Mary Jane Allen, son-in-law Daniel Jones and younger brother Calvin Boshkaykin.
A traditional wake will be held at Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation Gymnasium
on Thursday, November 3, 2022 beginning at 4:00 p.m.with ceremony beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022 with a traditional feast.
The ceremony will be officiated by Anton Treuer and Kellar Paap.
