Obituary for Pearl Yvonne DeGagné (Plourde)

Pearl Yvonne DeGagné

It is with great sadness that the family of Pearl Yvonne DeGagné announce her passing on December 22, 2022 at LaVerendrye Hospital with her family by her side.

Pearl was born February 15, 1933 in Fort Frances, ON. During her early years, she lived with her family at the Border Mill. Pearl loved to talk about the many adventures she had there. Her family then moved to Fort Frances where she lived the rest of her life.

On July 31, 1952, Pearl was united in marriage to the love of her life, Orielle DeGagné and together they raised their three sons.

Pearl worked in the kitchen at LaVerendrye Hospital, as a dispatcher for Beck’s Cabs and for most of her working career at McTaggarts Central Warehouse where she retired from a job she loved.

Pearl and Orielle spent many years camping and fishing at different spots throughout the district making friends wherever they went. She had many precious memories of their times together travelling with their friends in the Knights of Columbus community. Pearl was a 64-year member of the Catholic Women’s League, something she was very proud of. After Orielle’s passing Pearl made many friends in the St. Mary’s Bereavement Group. She so enjoyed their company. Pearl also enjoyed doing puzzles, crosswords, word searches and reading.

Most important to Pearl was her family, whether it be children, grandchildren, siblings, or her extended family, she loved spending time with them, talking to them, sending and receiving cards (she kept them all as they represented love). Pearl and Orielle’s home was always welcoming and full of love.

Pearl was predeceased by her husband, Orielle DeGagné; son, Robert DeGagné; parents, Irene and Edward Plourde; two sisters in infancy Louise and Eileen; brother, Edward (Sharon) Plourde; sister, Rose Marie (Ed) Ireton; grandson, Ryan DeGagné; brothers-in-law, Laurence (Eleanor) DeGagné, Charlie (Madelaine) DeGagné, Felix DeGagné, Emile DeGagné, Edmond DeGagné, Yves DeGagné, René DeGagné, Mike Bodnar; sisters-in-law, Lucille (Jean-Paul) LaFleur, Lorraine DeGagné; nieces, Caron DeGagné, Jana Rae Ireton, Charline, Charlotte and Joann DeGagné; nephews, Paul LaFleur and Jodi Ireton.

Pearl is survived by her sons, Randy (Cathy) and Michael (Sheri); grandchildren, Christina (Darran) Love, Gavin (Danielle) DeGagné, Kalon (Susan) DeGagné, Joshua DeGagne, Sarah (Justin) Gillespie, and Spencer DeGagné; granddaughter- in-law Carly DeGagné; and ten great-grandchildren.
