Obituary for Omer Edward Desaulniers

With heavy hearts the family of Omer Edward Desaulniers announces his passing on Monday May 8, 2023.
Omer was born on October 26, 1934, in Pinewood, ON to Moise & Valeda Desaulniers. He moved to Atikokan in 1954. In the early months of 1956, he met the forever love of his life, Mary. After a very short courtship they were married on November 12, 1956. For the next 11 years 8 children filled their home. A home built of love.
Omer was a shy, quiet fellow but was never shy about working hard and pleasing his family and friends in any way possible. Omer was a handyman, a jack of all trades. He built his home and over several different years added to it to accommodate his growing family. Also, spent his free time building dune buggies, go-carts, fixing motor bikes and skidoos. Omer was an avid gardener, keeping his home and property in Pinewood with an abundance of produce to feed his family for the long winters ahead. He was sure to have his children help in the planting and harvesting. As the children grew and departed, Omer spent a lot of time helping his wife Mary with the numerous banquets and making perogies, always behind the scenes. In his own way, Omer was proud, loved and cared for his family. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
Omer worked on the dredges at the Caland mines 1954-1959. In 1961-1994 he worked for the Ministry of Transportation. His retirement years were spent enjoying family and friends, some travel and being that handyman.
He is predeceased by his wife, Mary. His parents Moise & Valeda Desaulniers, sibling Henry Desaulniers. Parent in-laws Stan & Margaret Connolly, brother in-laws Michael Connolly, Francis Connolly, sister in law Bridget Baldwin.
Omer leaves behind his children Raymond (Judy), Edward (Brenda), Michelle (Michael), Daniel (Glenda), Richard (Paula), James (Sandra), Gary (Veronica), Kevin (Stephanie), 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Brother Larry (Noella) Desaulniers, in-laws John Connolly, Leo (Carol) Connolly and Stan (Angel) Connolly, special niece Marion Connolly and numerous other nieces and nephews.
