Olive (Ollie) Grace Stewart
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Olive Stewart, at the age of 90. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2020.
Mom was born to Israel and Elma Lougheed in Emo, Ontario on November 15, 1929. She came from a large family of ten children and grew up on the family farm. She knew hard work at a young age and her chores around the farm included cooking for the family. Mom was a fabulous cook and she was well known for her baking and preserves. She was a caring and giving person and known for her generosity. Our house was always full of people and she welcomed everyone into her home. She was renowned for her pies, buns and tarts. You never left her home without being fed, taking home a care package or getting a pinch on the cheek. Mom always enjoyed gardening and had a flourishing garden up until this past year. She loved her flower beds, berry picking and fishing with the family. Her greatest joy though was her husband, four daughters, two son in-laws and their families. She loved them unconditionally and always awaited their daily visits and phone calls. Mom and dad worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for the ‘girls’ and their grandchildren. She would proudly boast about her grandchildren’s accomplishments. Mom was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family and friends. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was always the first to offer help.
Olive met the love of her life, Raymond Stewart, and they were united in marriage on September 8, 1961. They were inseparable in their 58 years together. They cherished their travel excursions from coast to coast in Canada, bus tours, and cruises with family. Mom and dad never missed watching a hockey game together. Mom was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan and had the opportunity to see her team play live.
She was predeceased by her parents Israel and Elma Lougheed; in-laws, John and Amanda Stewart, brothers, Orval and Alfred Lougheed; sisters, Leone Halverson, Edra Nielson and Alice Judson; brother-in-laws Emil Halverson, Tom Nielson, Keith Watson and Nels Stewart; sister in-laws, Pearl Lougheed, Laura Lougheed and Rose Floeting.
She is survived by her loving husband, Raymond; four daughters, Janice Stewart, Jonna Esselink, Susan (Barry) Mosbeck, and Sandra (Mike) Krikke. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Luc, Alana, Luke, Jesse, Jarvis, Nickolas, Madison and Wyatt. She is also survived by her siblings, Willard (Dorothy) Lougheed, Irene Lougheed, Donna Stewart and Gerald Lougheed; sister in-laws, Ellen Watson, Norma Freund, and Jean Lougheed; brother in-law, Bob Judson and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be announced when we can all be together. In memoriam, donations may be made to Riverside Healthcare Foundation. Online condolences may be made at www.northridgefuneralhome.com.
