Obituary for Neil Martin Flatt

On Wednesday, October 27rd, 2021, Neil Martin Flatt passed away at the age of 75 after a
battle with Alzheimer’s disease. The world has lost a wonderful brother, husband, father, and
grandfather.

Neil was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, on March 8, 1946 to Frederick and Kathleen Flatt. Neil was a skilled handyman; there wasn’t a project he couldn’t tackle! He even cut his home in half and relocated it from Barwick to Fort Frances! However, his absolute favourite past-time was restoring vintage cars. Neil loved participating in car shows across Northwestern Ontario and Minnesota and could talk for hours about all things cars!

If you asked Neil, his greatest accomplishment wasn’t one of his restored vehicles. It was being a father and grandfather. Neil’s two children, Glenn and Rozanne made him so happy and proud; he would light up when spending time with them. Neil met his wife Judith (Judy) Ann Flatt in 1992 at work - a traditional office romance! That love grew to include Judy’s son Dustin. In 2015, Neil became a grandfather for the first time when grandson Chase was born.

Three years later in 2018, his identical twin grandsons, Walker and Finn were born. When Neil
was around those boys, he could not stop smiling!

Neil and Judy loved to travel and spend time camping with their families! So many fond memories were made at Melgund Lake, Wasa Lake, Las Vegas and Mexico.

Neil is survived by his loving wife Judy Flatt, son Glenn (Michelle) Flatt, daughter Rozanne Flatt, step-son Dustin (Jennifer) Tkachyk, grandsons Chase, Walker and Finn Tkachyk, brothers Wayne (Marilyn) Flatt, Gord (Joyce) Flatt, Cecil (Carol) Flatt, Calvin (Faye) Flatt, Norman (Linda) Flatt, sisters Lucille (Glen) Hart, Karen Martin, mother-in-law Rose Stachowich, brother-in-law Jim (Diana) Stachowich, sister-in-laws Janice Langlais, Louise (Dave) Radford and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Frederick Flatt, mother Kathleen Flatt, brother Larry Flatt and father-in-law Mike Stachowich. Neil was lovingly remembered by his family in a private ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Neil’s name to the Alzheimer Society Kenora/Rainy River Districts or to Rainycrest Auxiliary in Fort Frances by cheque, mailed to c/o Northridge Funeral Home ,Box 89, Emo, ON P0W 1E0.
