Life Story for Murry Angus Snider
It is with very heavy hearts that the family of Murry Angus Snider wish to announce his unexpected passing on the morning of Wednesday October 20, 2021 at LaVerendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, Ontario.
Murry was born on March 5, 1950 to Garnet and Ruby Snider in Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan. He grew up on the family farm in Bjorkdale, Saskatchewan with his four brothers (Clarence, Percy, Keith, and Wes) and one sister (Audrey). He attended school in Bjorkdale. After leaving high school, he began his working life at the age of 15 in the forest industry in British Columbia and, later, in the mines in Flin Flon, Manitoba at HBM&S. In 1971, Murry and family moved to The Pas, Manitoba, where he worked for CFI. Three years later (1974), they moved to Fort Frances where he began his career as a millwright at the town paper mill (called O&M at the time). Fort Frances would become their permanent home. Murry retired from Resolute Forest Products in 2009 after 35 years of service.
It was in 1967 that Murry met the love of his life, Linda, whom he married on August 24,1968. Together, they raised three daughters, Christine, Colette, and Barbara. Murry cherished spending time with his family. He adored his 10 grand kids and loved when the entire family could gather together. His pride and joy were his three sons in law, Jamie, Trevor, and Jason (if Murry were here to read this, he would have laughed heartily!).
Murry was very talented and knowledgeable in many trades—millwright, industrial mechanic, and carpenter. He tried his hand at every type of woodworking. He made all his grandchildren furniture to keep and take with them as keepsakes from him. We all have at least one item gifted to us from Dad/Grandpa/Papa. In 1984, Murry scratched his entrepreneurial itch and he and Linda bought a car wash that became his fourth child (Murlins). Every day he could be found fixing, tending, and improving his business. It kept his retirement years very busy as he worked hard to make it a successful business.
Murry was always reading and learning. His mind was always sharp and up-to-date on the world news. He was very generous and always willing to drop everything to help his family in any way. He was stubborn and had strong opinions (just like everyone else), but he always made sure we knew he loved us. His decline in health was devastating for him and us as we missed his energetic and creative personality. We were blessed to call him ours!
Murry was predeceased by his infant daughter, Carol; his parents, Ruby and Garnet; his in laws, Roland and Margaret; brothers, Percy and Clarence Snider and sister-in-law, Kay Snider; sister Audrey and her husband Dorn Leepart; and brother-in-law, Gregg Townsend.
Left to mourn are his wife of 53 years, Linda; his three daughters, Christine Bosma (Jamie), Colette Bowles (Trevor), Barbara Kabel (Jason); his ten grandchildren, Avery Shaw (Zach), Olivia (fiancé Konrad), Ethan, and Elise Bosma; Kenton, Cameron, and Reese Bowles; Ellayna, Evan, and Alex Kabel; brothers Keith (Elsie) and Wes (Kathy); brother-in-law Jack (Valerie) and sisters-in-law Dianne Townsend and Emily Snider; along with many nieces and nephews that he loved.
A private graveside service was held on Tuesday October 26 at 1p.m. at Riverview Cemetery, with the Rev. Jacob Quast presiding.
Pall bearers were his six grandsons, Kenton, Cameron, Reese, Ethan, Evan, and Alex.
