Michael Alan McCoy
It is with great sadness the family of Michael Alan McCoy announces his passing on Sunday, September 12, 2021 after a short, hard fought fight with cancer at La Verendrye Hospital with his wife by his side.
Mike was born in Fort Frances on September 29, 1961 to Henrietta and John McCoy. At a young age, Mike and his family moved to the family farm in Miscampbell where he grew up. He had many fond memories of working at his Uncle Brian’s farm on weekends and summer holidays.
In January of 1981 Mike met his future partner-in-life, Beverly, and it was love at first sight for both. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married on August 22, 1981. They raised two sons, Brian and Brendan starting out in Fort Frances and then moving to LaVallee Village 1990.
Mike began his career as a fuel truck driver in 1981 at T.J. Kaemingh & Sons where he just celebrated 40 years with the company. In the spring, Mike always looked forward to the Northland Fertilizer months. Bev would often refer to herself as the fertilizer widow because of the long hours. That was a job that he loved. Mike was well respected in the farming community because of his farming knowledge and excellent customer service. He was also very proud to have served as a volunteer fire fighter on the LaVallee Municipal fire department for many years.
He loved spending time with his family and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. Every Christmas he would buy each one a “grandpa gift” just from him.
Mike was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had many happy memories of the 25 years at moose camp, deer hunting and fishing on both Jackfish Lake and Rainy Lake. After the boys had grown, Mike and Bev became inseparable hunting and fishing buddies. He was so proud when Bev shot her first deer.
Mike will be forever and lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years Beverly (Smeeth); their sons Brian (Dawn) and Brendan (Brandi); cherished grandchildren Adrianna Lynn, Declan John, Cassidi-Anne and Daria-Jane; his mother Henrietta McCoy and mother-in-law Marjorie Smeeth; special uncle Brian (Jude) McCoy; brother Jerry; brothers-in-law, Lard Larson, Dale (Chris) Stamarski, Don (Sylvia) Smeeth and Lawrence Carter; sisters-in-law Dianne McCoy, Patti (Maurice) DeGagne, and Cathy (Randy) DeGagne; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mike was predeceased by his father John McCoy; brother Philip; sisters Sheri and Patti; father-in-law Bert Smeeth; sister-in-law Judy Carter; and nephew Ryan DeGagne.
A celebration of life for Mike will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Northridge Funeral Home, Emo, ON. Due to covid restrictions attendance will be by invitation.
If desired, memorial donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the Tamarack Lodge by cheque, c/o Northridge Funeral Home Box 89, Emo, ON P0W 1EO.
