Obituary

On May 25, 2021, Mom peacefully passed from this world to be reunited with her husband, brothers and parents.
Mom was born August 21, 1927 in Poland. She immigrated to Canada at 6 months of age with her two brothers and her parents. Mom spent 2 years in Toronto working for Shell Canada, before moving back to Winnipeg where she was employed as a proof-reader for the Winnipeg Free Press. In 1953, she met John, who was working for her parents at their market garden. They married in 1957, and had 3 children.
In 1965, mom and dad packed up the Buick and moved their family to Rainy River where they owned and operated the Rainy River Hotel for 11 years. Mom ran the dining room and it was her cooking that made the rest of the hotel (rooms and bar) flourish. All the Kinsmen looked forward to their monthly meetings at the hotel, feasting on her awesome roast beef dinners. Many bar patrons will also remember the ever popular beer sausage.
After they sold the hotel, mom helped run the canteen for the school. They later purchased the McLeod’s franchise and ran it successfully until retirement. The store they built still operates today.
After retirement, they built a new home where mom enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens. Mom was a member of the United Church, Hospital Auxiliary, RR Seniors Depot and the Legion.
Mom always loved a good card game, be it with family or friends at the legion or seniors depot. Rarely a week went by without her and her friends piling into her PT Cruiser and heading to the casino in Warroad.
Her love of family stretched far and wide, and she adored seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when she was able to come for visits and Sunday lunches.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Mary Mosiewich, her brothers Fred and Sam, and her husband John. She is survived by her children Peter (Sharon), Cathy Seguin (Claude) and Lisa Johnston (Brian), 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Church or the RR Hospital Auxiliary.
Special thanks to the RR Hospital staff for the extraordinary care she received during her time in Long Term Care.
