Obituary for Lucille Norinne Kaliska

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Lucille Kaliska, 83 at LaVerendry Hospital in Fort Frances, on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 with her family by her side.
“Lu” was born March 6, 1939 In Dorset, Ontario. She spent her youth on Lake of the Bays, fishing, swimming and working at various businesses around the beautiful Muskoka area.
She met her future husband, Joe Kaliska, while he was training in Forestry at the Ranger School. They were married in Huntsville on January 2, 1958 and later that spring moved to Atikokan where they raised their two sons Dana and Drew. Mom was on her own a lot as Dad was away fighting forest fires, so she made a lot of friends and was very active in the community.
In 1969 the family moved to Upsala where dad was the Chief Forest Ranger. Their stay there lasted only 2 years as a new opportunity arose and the family moved back to Atikokan.
In 1977 Dad was offered a job in Rainy River and it was home for mom permanently.
While raising her sons, mom worked at the Beef Hut Restaurant, Lettners Store, Sears Outlet and at the C.N. Hotel managing it while owners and friends Rene and Delores Boulet were away. After Dad’s passing in 2017, mom moved into an apartment at Riverview Manor and loved the companionship she found there, especially with her special friend Winnie Berard. They were constantly together, going to lunches and tea time at the manor, or walking up to the Bakery for lunch.
Mom struggled with health issues the last few months, but her positive and spunky nature never left her.
She will be sadly missed by everyone who know her.
She leaves to mourn her sons Dana (Janet) and Drew and half brother David Thompson, as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom kept in touch with her and who she thought the world of. Her cousin Janet, who kept her up to date on goings on in and around the Muskoka Area, and her circle of friends and care givers at Riverview Manor.
Mom was pre-deceased by her parents Harvey and Eileen Cunningham, Step mother Ethel Cunningham, brother Roger Cunningham and her loving husband Joe.
A celebration of Lucille's life will be announced at a later date.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be directed to the Rainy River Hospital Auxiliary c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89, Emo, Ontario P0W 1E0.
