It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Lorna Joan Marchuk, on December 31, 2019.
Lorna was born on December 4, 1935 in Fort Frances, ON to Alphonse and Ruby Veillieux, the oldest daughter in a family of nine children. She grew up in Fort Frances and while working at Helliar’s Resort she met the love of her life Richard (Dick) Marchuk. They married on March 4, 1955 in Fort Frances. They moved to Atikokan later that year where Dad worked at Steep Rock Iron Mines until its closure.
Through the years Lorna was a stay at home Mom. She was a positive influence for many, especially children. She loved baseball and instilled the love of the game in her girls. She also served as YBC program Director for a number of years. She belonged to the Royal Canadian Branch #145.
As her girls grew up she babysat for numerous families. Two special families are Ryan and Todd Bryk and Teri, Megan and Lindsay Cain.
Her family, home and gardening were the center of her life along with the family cabin at Perch Lake. The baking of her special cinnamon buns and Christmas dainties were appreciated and enjoyed by many. Her perogies were not only a little taste of heaven for her family but also for the many customers at the Big A Restaurant.
