It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Linda Kay, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Linda passed away surrounded by family on April 27, 2021, after a battle with cancer.
Linda was born on February 24, 1953, in Outlook Saskatchewan to Walter and Aaltje Howe. She lived on the farm until she was 17. In 1970 Linda moved to Fort Frances Ontario, where she married Larry Cousineau. Larry and Linda had two children Tammy and Tyler and step-son Cory who Linda loved as one of her own.
Linda lived and visited many places over the years including Panama, the US Virgin Islands, China and Saudi Arabia. Linda’s children and her demand for grandchildren brought her back to Fort Frances. Linda loved her time on Rainy Lake but always talked of her love for the Prairies.
Linda said and did what she wanted, she always spoke her mind, sometimes lacking a filter but her words were always honest and true and rooted in love. Linda had a great sense of humour, her smile and laugh were contagious and lightened a room. Everyone knew that Linda had a special way with animals and babies – they just immediately took a liking to her.
Linda’s greatest pride in life were her grandchildren. Her grandchildren adored her – she loved them “to forever and back”. Not a day went by where Linda didn’t see or talk to her grandchildren. Linda followed her grandchildren to hockey tournaments, dance recitals and fishing tournaments. Linda would play for hours outside by the lake and in the woods.
One of Linda’s greatest pleasures was cooking for her family and friends. She was a fantastic cook and made sure you left full. If you didn’t have at least a second helping, Linda would often reply “don’t you like my cooking?”
Linda was predeceased by her parents Walter and Aaltje Howe, in-laws Bob and Marion Cousineau, neice Tracey Wilkie and nephew Robin Houston.
Linda will be lovingly remembered by her children Tammy (Chris) Wielinga and Tyler (Beverly) Cousineau. Grandchildren Aiden, Davis and Ben Wielinga, Ava, Connor and Rosalie Cousineau. Her loving partner of 14 years Frank Cava. Linda loved Franks family. Especially dear to her heart was Frank’s daughter Maria (Todd) Kiviaho and their daughter Karadyn. Step-son Cory (Stephanie) Cousineau and their girls Mya and Claire. Siblings Jean (Jim) Wilkie, Rita (Bob) Pfoh, Ernest (Judy) Howe and Wally (Tracy) Howe. Brother-in-laws, Dan (Angie) Cousineau, Leon (Marcel) Cousineau, Dave Wilkie and many nieces, nephews, cousins and her loyal dog Joe.
Linda will be sadly missed by her many special friends especially Larry and Janice Cousineau. In her words “people thought our friendship was strange but to me it was perfect”.
A service pf celebration and remembrance will be held at a later date in Linda’s memory.
If desired, donations in Linda’s memory can be made to Riverside Foundation for Health Care – Chemo Unit. 110 Victoria Avenue, Fort Frances, Ontario, P9A 2B7.
