It is with great sadness that we announce that passing of our beloved mother Lorna Baker to the spirit world on September 05/21 with her family at her bedside at LaVerendre hospital. She was born on May 15 1935 on Rainy Lake to Philomene and William Klyne. She spent her early years living on the property of the Mathew’s mill on Couchiching FN territory. Where later in life she would reminisce about how hard life was there. When she was a teenager, she became a nanny for the Cadeaux family and traveled all over the US. After traveling she moved home and was working at Canadian Haven in Nestor Falls, and on one of her trips to Kenora she met and fell in love with her future husband Eric. They moved to Fort Frances in the Fifties and settled on third street west to start a family, moving to 821 Minnie Ave. In 1965 where she lived until her passing. Mom worked at the Arthur Café and the Rainbow Motel until she got her big break and started her career at Safeway. She worked there for over 35 years, saying she worked with some great people and being a social butterfly gabbing with the customers as she put out the meats. She and Dad loved being out on the land and water, fishing, hunting and picking blueberries. They spent many hours picking blueberries every summer for years. Many happy customers couldn’t wait for blueberry season as they knew mom and dad were the go-to people for berries. Dad passed away in 1993 and mom continued to work until 2000 when she retired from Safeway. She continued to keep busy by volunteering at the Salvation Army for several years. When she finally retired for good, she purchased a trailer and wintered in Florida for years with her friend Pat Kozik. Later after an accident in Tennessee on her way to Florida she decided that she could no longer be a snowbird and sold her trailer. She then moved onto the next chapter, Laughlin Nevada and the casinos. Most times when there was a direct flight from the Falls to Don’s place, chances are she would be on it. She loved the casino and her morning waffles while there. I don’t seem to remember a time when she came home with more money than when she left lol. Mom’s casino career came to an end in 2018 when before a flight to Don’s place, she took her dog for one last walk and slipped and fell injuring her back. This was the beginning of the decline in her health, but always had family around to visit and chat for a couple of hours.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Eric, her mother Philomene Klyne and her father William Klyne. Siblings Alfred, Gerry, Ernestine, Arnie boy, Shirley and Raymond.

Left to mourn are her sons Les, Greg and Rick (Shari) and baby girl Lilly. Grandson Stephan. Her only surviving sibling Ralph from Winnipeg. Numerous nieces and nephews especially Cathy and Porky who were there at the end.

There will be no service as per Mom’s wishes.
