Obituary for June Wheatley (Hadley)

Our beloved wife and mother, June Estelle Wheatley passed away on July 16th at the La Verendrye Hospital at the age of 84. June was a well known for her community service, her devotion to her faith, her big smile and quick laughter.

June was born on June 8, 1938 in the Township of Chapple to Ben and Lila Hadley. She was part of a large family with 7 brothers and sisters and grew up on the family farm. June is predeceased by her parents, Ben and Lila Hadley, sisters Lynn Johnson and Dell Nickel and brother, Grant Hadley. She was also predeceased by her beloved grandsons Jeff Haney and Andrew Haney.

June is survived by her husband, Lyle Wheatley and her children Diane Dragan(Mark), Doug Haney (Rose), Nelson Haney (Ruth) and Melody Shute (Mike). She is also leaving behind grandchildren Sheri (Nick), Sean, Lil, Kayla (Colin), Robin (Tamara), Tanner (Steph) Khali, Ben (Nikki), Lila and Emerson. June also had 12 great-grand children.

Our mother loved to be around all of her family and friends. She was well known for her large family gatherings and those gatherings were always open for anyone who did not have family nearby. You never knew how many people were going to be there but you always knew there would be enough food. All her grandkids also knew that you wanted to be first in line for a bag of her homemade buns to take home.

She loved her community and was an active volunteer, chairing the Chapple Heritage Committee and helping the community organize the Chapple Centennial. She was so proud of this work and loved how it bought people together from the community and bought back so many friends that had lived in the township in years past.

Our mother had so much inner strength and was able to overcome the challenges life sometimes brings. This inner strength came from her devotion to her faith which she shared with her husband Lyle. Their commitment to family and faith was the cornerstone of their 52 years of marriage.

There will be so many things we will miss about our mother - her laughter, her singing in the kitchen, the great meals around her table and her support during difficult times. She has left us with so many gifts though. She taught us to be generous, to laugh and to know we are all strong enough to face any challenge. She shared with us the joy of reading, music, gardening and strong coffee. She will be missed but we are comforted to know she has gone to be with her Saviour.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday July 21, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the Barwick Cemetery. Pastor Ken Johnson officiating.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Emo Hospital Auxiliary or to the Chapple Heritage committee by cheque, c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Emo, ON P0W 1E0.
