Obituary for Jean Bolen (McDonald)
It is with sadness the family of Jean Bolen 94, announces her sudden passing at her apartment on Friday July 30,2021.
She was born June 4, 1927 in Kingsford Twp. the second youngest child born to Bill and Clara McDonald.
Growing up in a large family, there were many stories to tell and Mom loved to reminisce, walking to school in any kind of weather with her younger brother Rod, as a teen tagging along with siblings or friends to country dances, and working at the tourist camps.
Jean was united in marriage to Russell Bolen, they settled in Shenston Twp. on a small farm where their two children were raised.
A stay at home Mom she loved to bake, trying new recipes, sewing many clothes for us and herself.
She loved company, socializing and family gatherings meant so much.
Jean belonged to the Women's Institute at Stratton and was a 4-H leader for a number of years.
Semi retired in 1971 Mom and Dad moved to Fort Frances. Mom went to work part time, cleaning at offices and motels.
They bowled, went dancing making new friends, and got to travel more,enjoying many trips to Kincardine ON. to visit Roger and family, hot spots took them to different states, but Hawaii was the favourite.
She joined the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #29, volunteering at many functions, and the poppy sales.
She was a member of Knox United Church in Fort Frances.
Her family was her pride and joy. We made her eyes sparkle, she was kind, caring, loving with big hugs.
Jean is survived by her daughter Donna (Greg) Penney and daughter in law Sharon Bolen.
4 Grandchildren: Kevin (Monique) Penney, Leanne Penney, James (Cindy) Bolen, Chad (Jackie) Bolen
9 Great Grandchildren: Cameron, Lauren, Jacob-Ty, Kyle, Paige, Cody, Kenna, Ava, Anderson
as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by her parents Bill and Clara, husband Russell, son Roger, brothers- Ronald, Colin, Donald, Frank, Merle, Stanley, Kenneth and Rod, sisters- Mildred Loveday and Lena St Amand and all their spouses, brother in laws Wilbert and David Bolen, sister in laws Mary Georgeson, Clara Malick and Allene Atkinson and their spouses.
A service of celebration of Jean's life will be held on Tuesday September 14, 2021 2-4 p.m. at the Fort Frances Royal Canadian Legion. Covid restrictions to be followed.
