Obituary for Ivan Neil Kaus

It is with great sadness the family of Neil Kaus announce his peaceful passing on July 4th 2020 at the Rainy River Health Centre in Long Term Care.

Ivan “Neil” Kaus was born on October 7th, 1938 in Sleeman, Ontario to the late Erhard and Olive Kaus. He was the youngest of 4 brothers, Ronald, Walter, Reginald and Neil. He attended primary grade school in the old Blue 4 School and then finished his schooling at the Alexandria School in Rainy River. After graduating high school Neil learned his skill of masonry from Hensrud Masonry out of Kenora when the Rainy River High School was being built.

He took that skill to BC and later to Scottsdale Arizona where he started his own masonry business. It was in Arizona that met his wife Dee and lived there raising her family with her until her death in 2003. Shortly after Dee’s passing Neil returned home to Rainy River in 2004 to enjoy his retirement and be closer to his family. In 2008 Neil met Agnes Jonassen. They enjoyed travelling, playing cards, going to the Casino and family time, until her death in 2015.

Family was very important to Neil. He always made time for his nieces and nephews and Agnes’s grandchildren. He made an annual trip back to Arizona to see Dee’s family for as long as he was able to.

Neil loved helping people and quickly became the Mr. Fix it in the Riverview Apartments where he lived until he eventually had to move into long term care in Rainy River in 2019 because of his Parkinsons. Neil was a very loving soul and who always had a smile on his face and a witty comment to make.

Neil was preceded by his two of his older brothers Ronald and Walter, his parents, Erhard and Olive, his wife Dee, his sister in law Doreen and his special partner Agnes. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother Reg, nephews, Glenn (Alli), of Kenora , Kelvin,(Anita) and Brian (Janet) of Dryden, nieces Glenda (Gary) Halverson of Rainy River and Lisa (Dennis) Jodoin of Pinewood, as well as Agnes’s daughter Tammy (Stewart) McNally of Rainy River.

A graveside service will be held on July 10th at 11:00 am in the Blue Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made to Rainy River Long Term Care Facility if so desired.
