Obituary for Hubert Larocque

Hubert Edward Joseph Larocque
It is with deep sadness that the family of Hubert (Bert) Larocque, 83 years, announce his passing on March 1, 2021 during heart surgery in Toronto. Bert was born on February 11, 1938 to Leonide and Valeda Larocque (Landry). He was the fifth in a family of six children. He married Margaret (Armstrong) in 1962 and they had four children. He began his work career with the C.N.R out of Rainy River then for Hocquil Construction on the causeway in Fort Frances for a short time. In 1963 after the birth of their first son the couple moved to Thompson, Manitoba where he held several positions with I.N.C.O. Metals the longest being Hoistman at the T1 and Birchtree mines.
Bert was an honest and hard worker and always gave 100% to any job he did whether work related or domestic. He had a devilish streak and loved to tease. He had a great love of family, nature, country music and animals. He had a special way with his pets and they were usually seen following him about in the yard or sleeping peacefully on his lap.
He was a visionary, he had the wonderful ability to imagine something he wanted to build or fix and even had the amount of materials needed to do so before a single board was cut. His biggest project was a two story cabin in northern Manitoba which he designed, built and did all of his own electrical and carpentry work. If a certain tool he needed wasn’t available he made one himself. He was amazingly innovative in that way. He was a member of O.L.G.C Parish Council and the Knights of Columbus in Rainy River. He was a kind person who generously gave of his time for anyone needing help. He was our rock, his life was led by a strong moral compass that set a solid foundation for his kids to live by.
He leaves to mourn his wife of over 58 years Margaret, his children Leo (Karen) of Brandon, MB, Duane (Lisa) of Sanford, MB, Dale (Lisa) of Thompson, MB and Gigi (Dave) Birch of Thompson, MB. He is also mourned by his grandchildren: Angelique Stacey, Lance Larocque, Jordan Larocque, Renee Larocque, Danielle Larocque, Ali Johnson, Grant Larocque, Gabrielle Larocque, Julie and Hannah Birch; his great-grandson James Freeman; his sisters Theresa Gullekson of Pender Island, BC, Elise Boyda of Atikoken, ON and Yvette Lauzon of Fort Frances, ON. In-laws: Marguerite Larocque, Bob Armstrong & Ray Armstrong (Sandy) of Dryden, ON, Gerry Armstrong (Louise) of St. John, NB, Kathy Healey (Chris) of Nanaimo, BC and many beloved nieces and nephews on both sides. He was predeceased by his parents, Leonide & Valeda Larocque, sister Orise Langlais, brother Phil Larocque, in-laws Edward & Kathleen Armstrong, Donald Armstrong, May Armstrong, Leo Langlais, Emil Tyhy, Paul Gullekson, Frank Boyda and Phil Lauzon.
