Obituary for Gloria Lorraine Wood

WOOD, Gloria
June 5 1936 - November 14 2022

It is with deep sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of Gloria Wood.
Gloria was born in Tyndall, Manitoba to parents Joseph and Katherine Corda. She has been a resident of Fort Frances, since she came to teach at Fort Frances High School. Here she met her husband, George Wood, whom she married in December of 1960. Gloria and George opened Wood’s Sewing Center in 1968 and operated it for 37 years.
Gloria was an amazing teacher whose students still remember her fondly. She was an active member of the community through her volunteer work with the Kinsmen and Kinette Club, 4-H, the CWL, and the Fun in the Sun Committee. Gloria shared her gifts of baking, sewing and crafting with her family and the community. She spent many hours with her customers in the store and at community events, such as craft sales, where she shared her expertise. Gloria loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, passing her passions and knowledge onto the next generation.
Family was the most important aspect of Gloria’s life; there is nothing she looked forward to more than spending time with her loved ones. Supporting her children and grandchildren in their passions was a priority for her. Those that will miss her most are her children Kathryn Makl (Jeff), Donald Wood (Jean Gerstner); her grandchildren Samantha Murray (Braden), Travis Makl (Laney Dickson), Eric Wood, Lisa Wood; and her sister Rose Beaubier (Peter). She will be fondly remembered by her extended family: Matthew and Eva Gerstner, brother-in-law John DeFrancesco, nieces, nephews and many close friends. Gloria was predeceased by her husband George Wood.
Gloria was an amazing woman who has always been such a big part of the lives of those she loved. We miss her already, but are glad that she is joining George after 21 years apart.
Cremation has taken place, and a family celebration will be held at a later date.
