It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gilbert on November 12, 2020. Gilbert lost his life to an aggressive cancer. This cancer took his life quickly and there wasn’t time to fight it. His passing shocked his family and friends. We are comforted by knowing he is with his family and he no longer has to endure the chronic pain of his illness.
Gilbert was born in International Falls on April 29, 1958 to Patsy (nee Perreault) and Lyle Grover. Gilbert and his siblings grew up as “Army Brats” (as he would call it) gaining life experiences from all of his travels.
He spent 26 years of his life alongside his love, Agnes Grover (nee McGinnis) and recently celebrated their 17th Anniversary.
He left behind his children; Amber (Paul), Jessica, Robin (Tausha), Genny (Shawn), and his “Shady” Katie.
His siblings, Steve (Denise aka Bones), Lloyd (Susan), Peggy (Steve), Tina (Willie), Chauncey, Tim (Nicole).
His grandchildren were his world. Patience, Declan, Riley, Skylee, Livia, Josh, Daeton, Tianna, Ariana, Kennedy, Destiny, Reece, Harmony, Paige, Justice, Gracie, Ron jr, Brendan, Seanna, Asiaw, Aric. Great Grandchildren, Trace, Novalee, Sincere.
He loved all his nieces and nephews and made sure they all knew how much they meant to him. Gilbert made a special bond with each one of them and often gave them nicknames. If they ever needed anything made, Gilbert made sure to make it extravagant and with lots of love put into it.
Gilbert is predeceased by both his parents Lyle and Patsy, siblings, Ruthann and Maxine, step son Joshua, and his best dog friends Buddy and Bugsy.
Gilbert worked many years in construction all over North America. He loved his work at the Kay-Na-Chi-Wa-Nung Historical Centre where he learned the history of First Nations people and would give the best tour to guests. He took great joy in any job that he had, and did them with passion. He enjoyed woodworking, crafting, carving, fishing, music, and collecting vintage items.
He lived for his grandchildren, they gave him energy to wake each day with love and kindness. He took them on many adventures and taught them many things about nature and life. He had a connection to animals and nature and loved life. Often animals were drawn to him and would show up at his back door. Gilbert would joke and say, “I hate kids!” but he had nothing but love, hugs, and smiles to give.
During his early years Gilbert would take his children Amber and Jess on amazing camping trips and waterfall visits. He would take them on fishing trips and did numerous activities that will always be cherished memories. He continued these special trips and activities with his partner Agnes, children, and grandchildren.
Gilbert gave so much to his family and never asked for anything in return. He will always be remembered for his dedication to his wife. They were each other’s world. His legacy will always be the love and loyalty he shared with family and friends . We will honour Gilbert by living each day with the memories and teachings he instilled in each of us.
