Obituary for Gerald Russell Allan

It is with heavy hearts that we wish to share the passing of Gerald Allan on the morning of August 20 at LaVerendrye Hospital.
He was born in Emo on February 9, 1949 to Russ and Colleen Allan and grew up in Devlin on the family farm with his siblings. He went to work at a young age, spending many years with Armstrong’s, CN, Judson’s, McQuaker’s, and the Township of Emo. Gerry enjoyed running large equipment, especially the grader.
He married Jane Woolsey on September 11 , 1970 in Nestor Falls, ON. They spent the early years in LaValle raising their two children Lori and Shaun before moving to Emo where they enjoyed many years. They were blessed to have celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2020!
In his younger years Gerry enjoyed playing fastball, hockey, driving stock cars, golfing, and fishing. Playing cards was always a favorite pastime of his with friends and family. He participated and travelled in many tournaments representing Branch 99.
Later on in life, taking a road trip to a casino was something he really enjoyed. Much of his time was spent volunteering at the Legion. He was often found in the kitchen cooking prime rib and preparing the senior lunches. Gerry took pride in serving as Sergeant of Arms at parades and other Legion events. He was a lifetime member of Branch 99 where he enjoyed having a cold one and visiting friends.
Family was everything to him! There was nothing more he loved than to spend time at family gatherings where he loved to visit family and tease the kids. There was no doubt that he was most proud of his grandsons! He treasured his visits with them and listening to their recent stories about their shenanigans. His eyes would light up and a grin would spread across his face when they were mentioned in conversation.
Gerry will be greatly missed by his children Lori (Clyde), Shaun (Sherri); grandsons Cody, Cole and Caleb; siblings Lois, Roger, Kay, Brian (Nancy), Cheryl (Dan), Lucille (Mel), and Brenda (Bill); Aunts Mildred Allan and Gwen Westover; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
At this time, a special thank you is given to his family for all their support throughout Gerry’s health issues. Each and everyone of you held a special place in his heart!
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2022 at the Devlin Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Emo Legion at 12:00 noon.
