It is with great sadness that the family of Wasegiizhigook - Evelyn Morrison announces her passing on Monday, October 24, 2022 in Regina, Saskatchewan.
She was born on October 16, 1915 in Net Lake Reservation to Waabigagaagii and Gezhibaagabowiik – Old Whitecrow. She moved to Seine River First Nation as a young girl and it was here that she married her husband, Meminogabow – Andrew Morrison (Ohmen). Wasegiizhigook was an amazing Anishinaabekwe that never did learn how to speak English. As a young woman and throughout her life, she was a stay at home mom, gramma, to great great great gramma. She was very knowledgeable in the old ways and was often sought out for advice. She enjoyed dancing, camping, sewing, traveling and spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed for her warm and generous kind heart.
Wasegiizhigook will be greatly missed by her grandchildren; Pamela Johnson (John), Brian Wayash Sr. (Carrie Ann), Bill Wayash Jr. (Carol), Colin and Sandra Wayash-Calder (Jay); Ledean Johnson, Gerald Morrison, Diane Ottertail (Terry), Donald Morrison, Leona Morrison, and William Morrison; Deborah Morrison, Roy Morrison (Beverly), and Ed Morrison (Naomi); her great grandchildren; Robbie Atatise, Raymond Johnson, Daniel Johnson (Natasha), JoAnna Johnson; Brian Wayash Jr (Sharmarie), Kayla Wayash (Jason), Ashley Wayash (Ethan), Deanna Wayash (Tye), Ty Wayash, and Chantelle Wayash; William Wayash, Damon Wayash, Sohl Calder, Riley Calder, Joel Calder, Raiina-Summerset Calder, Andrew Morrison (Cheryl), Jasmine Taylor (Brent) Miranda Taylor (Micheal) Tristan Taylor, Deneah Morrison, Domonic Morrison (Sharlyn), Brandon Morrison, Racheal Morrison, Mariah Morrison (Ryan), Kealin Morrison (Keira), Telesa Morrison, Rebecca Morrison, Gerald Jr Morrison, Ang Morrison, Miles Morrison, Todd Morrison, Cynthia Morrison, Tiffany Morrison, William Morrison, Mathew Ottertail, Adam Ottertail, Colleen Ottertail, Dallas, Melissa, Terrance Jr Ottertail, Autumn Ottertail, Eric Morrison (Caitlyn), Bruce Morrison, Anthony Morrison (Rene), Leon Johnson, Colleen Johnson, Rhea Skead, Shaun Skead, Lindsey Whitecrow, Keisha Whitecrow; River Whitecrow-Spoon; and numerous great great greats, too numerous to count.
She was predeceased by her father Waabigagaagii and mother Gezhiibaagabowiik; her brother Joseph Whitecrow Sr (Irene), and sister Mary Melrose (Peter), and her sons Roy (Edna), Andrew (Cecilia), Doyle, Edward, Joseph, her daughters May (Billy) and Jane (Bill), and her grandchildren Sylvia Morrison, a twin, Daniel Johnson (Booksy), Garett Wayash, Rudolf Whitecrow (Rudy), Gertrude Morrison, Jessica Morrison,
Wasegiizhigook practiced Anishinaabe Traditional Adoptions to help raise children that became orphaned. She considers numerous others as her sons and daughters over the years.
A traditional wake will be held on Sunday, October 30 at 3:00 p.m. in Seine River First Nation. Traditional funeral ceremonies will follow in the morning of Monday, October 31, 2022 with Elder PaShawOnee-Binace - Ralph Johnson officiating.
