Emma Braun
Emma Braun, 90, o f Atikokan, Ontario, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2022, with her family by her side. Emma was born October 4,1931, in Austria in the province of Czechoslovakia to Emma and Alois Hedrich. In 1949 Emma immigrated to Saint Gregor,
Saskatchewan with her mother and her brother Alfred, and that's where she met the love of her life, Joseph Braun. They were married on May 31, 1955 and the couple moved to Atikokan soon after to plant roots and start their family.
Emma was the embodiment of strength and perseverance as she raised her children on her
own following the death of her husband and was very present for the up-bringing of all her
grandchildren. She had strong family values and not only took the time to instill these in her own
children and grandchildren but also in the countless neighbourhood children who she took care of over the years. In her early years, Emma enjoyed camping, fishing, blueberry picking, putting together puzzles, and hunting with her family, but an intense game of cards was always her favourite.
Emma was a devout Catholic and a member of the Catholic Women's league for over fifty
years. She spent countless hours volunteering for the Church and would never miss a Sunday service. In her later years, Emma enjoyed spending her summers at the family cabin at Eva Lake. During winter she could be seen cheering on her grandchildren at every hockey game or hockey tournament they were involved in. She loved cooking and often looked forward to our special family celebrations, as it was a time to gather, catch up and check in to see how we were all doing.
Emma is survived by her children, Dennis (Ann) Braun, Gary (Linda) Braun, Linda (Gerald) Thivierge, Lorraine (Wayne) Miller, and Marianne (Keith) Caldwell, ten grand-children and eight great grand-children.
Emma was pre-deceased by her husband Joseph, her parents, step-father Arthur, brother
Alfred, and a younger sister. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses, and health care
workers at the extended care wing or all their loving care for Emma during her stay there and during the process of her passing.
A service for Emma will be held at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church this Saturday, September 17, at 11 am. A small, intimate family gathering will take place after the service at
Little Falls Cemetery, where Emma will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Joseph.
Immediately following the service everyone is welcome to join the family downstairs in the
church hall for a luncheon.
We'll love you for always,
we'll like you forever, and as long
as we are living, our Mother and
Grandmother you'll be...
“He will wipe every tear
from their eyes. There will be no
more death or mourning or
crying or pain, for the old order
of things has passed away.”
