Obituary for Eloise Margaret` Camirand

Eloise Margaret Camirand

It is with deep sadness that the family of Eloise Camirand announce her sudden passing on April 3, 2022 at the age of 91, at the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg.

Eloise was born November 13, 1930 in Fort Frances, Ontario. She was married to the love of her life Jean, on September 12, 1947.

She is survived by her best friend and husband Jean, her 5 children Jean Jr, Kirk (Diane Ward), Carla (Marvin Mose), Renee (Gary Miller) and Kelly (Brian McCabe). She is also survived by her sister Verenia Zucchiatti and sister in law Mavis Dick, 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Clarence (Buster) and Clara (Bud) Saunders, sister Mary Murrie, brother Don, father and mother-in-law Louis and Mary Camirand, brother-in-law Gaston, sisters-in-laws Josette Koss and Jeanette Kruger.

Our mother was the epitome of love and strength. She was the love of our dad's life for 74.5 years and his everything.

She was the woman we all aspire to be. She was confident, fun, strong-willed, calm, loving, community oriented, and had a memory we all wished we had. If you couldn't remember a birthday, you asked her. She knew the birthdays of all our friends, the neighbour kids and every relative.

Our mother was a stay-at-home mom until the mid-70s when she started working at the high school cafeteria. To this day, people would stop her in stores, greet her and say "Remember me, Mrs. Camirand? I used to eat in the cafeteria." And yes, she remembered. She was well known for her baking. We all loved her weekly homemade bread, sometimes using the leftover dough to wrap around hotdogs and the warm cinnamon buns she would have waiting for us after school. Our friends always went directly to the always full cookie jar. She was also a very talented seamstress, sewing most of our clothes, our centennial dresses and all three of her girls wedding dresses.

Our parents did everything together; they travelled extensively, hunted, golfed, bowled, played bridge, volunteered and spent countless hours at the cabin. Our mother was a member of the CWL; she volunteered 50+ years for the hospital auxiliary, delivering Meals on Wheels with our dad, and many hours at the senior centre.

Our years at the cabin held so many special memories- swimming in the lake, card games, and playing badminton on the lawn. Our mother saved our dad from many a snake with her ever-ready hoe and the rest of us from nasty dock spiders.

There wasn't a person our mother met that she didn't like, or that didn't like her. She made friends wherever she went. She was a glass half full person, who, when asked how she was doing (and no matter how she felt) would say- "I am fine." Well, Mom, you have left us with heavy hearts, but don't worry- we'll be fine.

Interment will take place at a later date in the Riverview Cemetery, Fort Frances, ON.

If desired, memorial donations in Eloise’s name may be made by cheque to the Riverside Ladies Auxiliary or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89, Emo, ON P0W 1E0.
