Late Elizabeth Brown “Giitaagonaabek”

On Wednesday October 19, 2022 Giitaagonaabek-Elizabeth Brown (nee Windigo), from Rainy River First Nations, peacefully passed away at the Emo Health Centre with her family by her side. Elizabeth was born November 4, 1919 in Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation (Red Gut), to Margarette Windigo and Louie Fernette.

She is survived by her children; Patsy Allan, Lucille Eldridge, Bernice Dohmen, Elaine Copenace, Lou-Ann (Murry) Bombay, Evangeline Brown. Along with 39 Grandchildren; Norman Jr (Lois) Allan, Shirley Allan, Charlene Allan, Terry (Michelle) Allan, Sandra (Kevin) Tuesday, Tracy Allan; Diane Geissler; Gerry (Tanya) Hunter, Ernest Brown, Alton Brown; Lee-Ann Brown, Carrie Ann (Brian) Brown; Dennis Jr. Dohmen, Benjamin (Jen) Dohmen, Denise (Wally) Wilson, Dyan Vizner-(d); Rebecca & Eugene Brown, Amanda Bruyere, Amy (Riel) Brown and Riley Brown; Lori Copenace (d), Anthony Jr. (Terri-Ann) Copenace, Marc Copenace, Alana Copenace (d), Todd Copenace; Leslie Brown-LaRoque; Richard Brown-Bombay (d), Elizabeth (Brian) Lapointe, Maria Bombay, Tiffany Bombay; Melissa Brown, Rachel Brown, Garry Brown, Brandon Brown, Ikwezens Brown-Handorgan. Elizabeth is predeceased by her husband Benjamin Brown SR. and her Parents, Margarette Windigo and Louie Fernette; her Siblings; Rose-Marie Perrault, Michele Windigo, Jim Windigo and Jim Fernette; her Children; Roy Brown, Eugene Brown, Benjamin Brown Jr., Ernest Brown, Loretta Vivie, Cecil Brown; her Son-in-Laws, Norman Allan, Fred Eldridge, Dennis Dohmen, Anthony Copenace and Daughter-in-Law, Lucy Brown; her Grandchildren & Great- Grandchildren and Great-Great-Great grandchildren; Jason Allan, Rayna Lynn Tuesday and Ryder Lynn Horton, Angel Allen-Marchuk, Rhiannah Allen, Rayna); Rachel Hunter, Christie Hunter; Ernie Jr Brown Samantha Brown; Sandy Roberta Lee Cloud, Adja Brown, Chadrack Dohmen, Brandi Lee Dohmen, Dyan Vizner; Baby Brown; Lori Copenace, Alana Copenace, Delaine Copenace; Richard Brown-Bombay.

Elizabeth enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going to Pow Wow’s, dancing Jingle Dress, crocheting little booties and dolls, blueberry and wild rice picking, listening to her favourite singer George Jones, she loved to Jig, playing cards, going to bingo and casino’s and she was the best Bannock maker in town!

A traditional Wake will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 4 p.m. at Rainy River First Nations gymnasium.
A Catholic Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the gymnasium on October 24, 2022, by Fr. Biju Mathew officiating, followed by a Traditional Service commencing at 10:00 a.m. by Elder Albert Hunter and (3) helpers.

Interment will take place at the Brown Family plot in Rainy River First Nations, with a luncheon to follow at RRFN gymnasium.
