Obituary for Douglas Cain
It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Maclennan Cain announce his passing on August 8th, 2022.
Douglas was born on May 24th, 1955 in Atikokan to Melvin and Bernice Cain. He was oldest of 3 boys. Douglas grew up in Atikokan and started his career working for the Hudson Bay company in Leaf Rapids. Eventually leading in to a long career of selling outdoor sporting goods for Lakehead Wholesalers, Payless Fishing Tackle, and Northland Fishing Tackle.
In the mid 90’s dad started a new chapter in his life working for the Fort Frances Times, where he became more involved in the community. Dad then worked for numerous local businesses, including Pinewood Sports, B93 FM, and then finished his career behind the hardware desk at Canadian Tire.
Dad could be found in Robins Donuts almost every evening having coffee with his close friends, always discussing local topics, and brainstorming new ideas. Dad had the “gift of gab” and always made time to catch up with friends.
Dad was probably best known for his remarkable dedication to the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship (FFCBC). His passion for tournament fishing was truly amazing. Dad was a founding director for the FFCBC. He spent countless hours preparing for these events. His favourite memories were the early hours before take off on tournament mornings where he made it his job to greet and talk fishing with every angler. He counted many of these anglers as his close personal friends.
Douglas is survived by his son Jason Cain (Koryn) and his children Nicholas and Isabella, and daughter Joanna Bruneau (Matthew) and their children Annelise and Amelia. Brothers Bradley and Steven, and nieces Crystal, Amanda and Lauren.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation by cheque, c/o Northridge Funeral Home Ltd, P.O. Box 89 Emo, Ontario P0W 1E0.
