Obituary for Douglas Matt Broman

It is with sadness in our hearts that the family of Douglas Broman announce his
passing on August 23, 2021.

Doug had many talents, an excellent artist and writer. He was extremely passionate about politics, always ready for a good debate and a staunch supporter of the NDP party. He was always a hard worker at election time. Doug attended Fort Frances High School, after which he was employed at the Fort Frances Times as a writer in the print shop. He later formed his own newspaper called the “District Sun”. After Fort Frances,

Doug moved to Toronto for several years and finally made his way back closer to home, to Thunder Bay, where he worked at the Lakehead University in the Printshop. He had a local TV show called “Thunder Gay Magazine, of which he was extremely proud and won several awards. After moving back to Fort Frances, Doug worked in several group homes before retirement. Doug enjoyed the Fort Frances Library and staff and made great use of what they had to offer.

Doug was born on May 4, 1949, the first born of Matt and Helen Broman. Doug was predeceased by his partner Ken Plante, by his parents Matt and Helen Broman and nephew Michael Sheldon.

Doug is survived and will be missed by his siblings: Gary, Gayle (Wayne), Dave (Roz) and Mark (Bonnie). He is survived by his nieces and nephews- Michelle (Jordie), Nicole, Danielle (Matt), Ken, Andrea (Mark), Chris (Drew), Rylee (Brennan) and great nieces Maddy, Amory, Ria and Amelia, great nephews Justin, Peter, Kowan and Brody.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Frances Public Library, on Doug’s behalf.

A come and go celebration of life will be held at the home of Mark and Bonnie Broman on Thursday, September 2, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. 1212 First Street East Fort Frances, ON.
