Obituary for Dorleen Godbout
It is with great sadness that the family of Dorleen Marguerite Godbout (McEvoy) announces her passing on Tuesday December 27, 2022 at Rainycrest in Fort Frances. Dorleen was born to Vincent and Kathleen (Meagher) McEvoy on May 14, 1932. She was united in marriage to Gaston Godbout on March 24, 1952.
Dorleen was a devoted and loving mother to seven children; Joseph, Sherry (Duane) Loveday, Vincent (Barb), Jami (Jackie), Mishelle, Richard (Laura) and Rodney.
Dorleen embodied unconditional love and had a heart of gold. She took great care in raising her children and loved spending time with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorleen was a hard worker, she managed the Fort Frances Hotel restaurant and together she and Gaston established and operated Godbout and Sons Timber Limited. In her spare time she enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking and travelling the world. Her numerous adventures took her to the Holy Land, France, Spain, Portugal, and Italy just to name a few. Many winters you would find her and Gaston enjoying the heat with their family and friends in Arizona.
Dorleen was a loyal member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and the Catholic Woman’s League. Without fail, you could always find her and Gaston in the back left pew on Saturday evening mass. Dorleen’s calm and gentle nature was a powerful presence at all of our family gatherings. She will be greatly missed by so many who loved her.
Dorleen will be remembered by her two sisters Leslie McCoy and Sandra McEvoy, her 18 grandchildren; Rhonda, Dion, Duane Jr, Crystal, Ravyn, Nathan, Vince Jr, Julian, Rachel, Chelsey, Brandi, Carissa, Ashley, Chad, Jennifer, Cole, Storm and Tazmn, her 29 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Dorleen is predeceased by her parents, her husband of 53 years Gaston Godbout who was the love of her life, her son Joseph, son in law Duane Loveday, three sisters; Bernice Izzard, Louise Miller, Sharon Shepard and 5 brothers; James, Bobby, Ronald, Richard, and Douglas (Max) McEvoy.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church Saturday, January 7 at 11am. Lunch to follow.
