Obituary for Donald Lloyd Larson
is with great sadness that we announce that our brother and uncle, Donald Lloyd Larson passed away peacefully at his home on July 24, 2020.
Donny was born on March 11, 1955, in Emo to the late Lillian and Ingvald Larson. Donny lived his whole life in Emo and was a constant gentle presence in the community. One of the things that he enjoyed most was wandering around town, checking things out and quietly observing his surroundings. You could often find him sitting alone in the empty grandstands, walking around the vacant fairgrounds or just standing on a corner like a statue watching the traffic pass. Donny was diagnosed at a young age with schizophrenia, which made it difficult for him to maintain employment. Although he never had a formal job, Donny was very talented when it came to fixing things, and he enjoyed repairing bicycles and old snow machines, and if it could be taken apart, Donny did it. Donny was a kind person and was always in a happy mood, and his infectious laugh and laid-back attitude taught those close to him that everything was “copacetic.” Donny took pleasure in the simple things in life. He enjoyed watching the stock car races but would never go to the grandstands to watch them, instead he chose to view them through the fence. Donny had a significant impact on the lives of his nieces and nephews when they were growing up, and many memories of skating, sledding, playing go-fish, doing puzzles, sliding, and birthday parties will be forever cherished. Donny had a kind heart that loved all animals, but he was especially fond of kitty cats. Donny always left food on his porch for any random kitty that may venture by, even if it was of the black and white striped variety. Those that were close to Donny knew that he had an unrelenting sweet tooth, and he loved his treats. It didn’t matter if it was homemade or store-bought, if it was a cookie, popcorn, baking, or candy, Donny wanted it, and he would eat it all and then wash it down with coffee, and he always wanted more. Although his health slowly deteriorated over the last couple of years, Donny still lived at home and continued to live his life just the way he wanted to until the end.
Donny is survived by his siblings; Doreen (Vernon) Thompson, Marlene Visser, and Alfred Larson as well as the nieces and nephews that meant the world to him; Brenda (Tony) Elias, Darwin (Corrie) Thompson, Charlene (Nathan) Grudnizki, Brandon and Sarah Larson. Also mourning his loss are his great-nephews and great-nieces and his sister in law Suzanne Larson.
Donny was predeceased by his parents, Lillian and Ingvald, his brother in law Sam Visser, his brother Leonard and his nephew Richard Thompson.
A small graveside service for family and close friends will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020, at 10:30 am at the Burris cemetery. In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the family encourages those that wish to attend to wear masks and practice physical distancing.
