Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our sister, Debbie Armstrong on May 17, 2021, at The Rainy River Hospital, after a short illness with cancer. Debbie was born in Rainy River, April 12, 1955 to the late Jack and Ruth Armstrong. After her school years she moved to Manitoba, living in Winnipeg, then moving to Selkirk where she lived for 35 years. She had recently moved back to Rainy River to be near her family. Debbie loved playing slo-pitch baseball and quite often her Winnipeg/ Selkirk ball team of relatives and friends entered various ball tournaments in Rainy River. Some of Debbie’s teammates have said that she was the best pitcher they had played with and against. Two other favourite pastimes were watching curling bonspiels and also travelling to Minnesota to attend the annual We Fest country music festival for about 25 years. Debbie had a large circle of very close friends in Selkirk and they meant the world to her, and in fact, she was very proud to bring some of them to Rainy River for various reasons, like camping, family functions, ball tournaments, weddings, and the annual walleye tournament. Although Debbie had no children of her own, she was “motherlike” to many of her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. In fact some of them would spend part summers at her home. Debbie was a very vibrant person and could be the life of any family gathering, and when you spent time talking, joking, singing, or dancing with her, you always walked away with a huge smile on your face, and a full heart. She absolutely loved music, and really enjoyed singing at house parties and she was very good at singing Karaoke, which she did at the local Army and Navy Club in Selkirk.
Debbie was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Ruth, sisters Patsy and Beverly, as well as brothers-in-law Edwin Anderson and Lou Nicholson. Debbie is survived by brothers Larry(Myrna), John(Forest), Ralph(Deb), Danny(Janice), and sister Judy, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.Rest In Peace dear sister and auntie! Until we meet again!
Arrangements to be announced at a later date.
