Obituary for Darlyne Vererly Bruce (Elliott)

Darlyne passed away peacefully on Saturday October 17, 2020 at the age of 78 with her family by her side.

Darlyne was born on July 20th, 1942 in Emo, ON to Chesley and Dorothy Elliott.

Darlyne met the love of her life Stewart Bruce and was married April 25, 1964. In 1967 they were blessed with their daughter Shelley and a son four years later (sadly miscarried).

Together with Stu’s mother Dolly they owned and operated Boulder Lodge on Pipestone Lake. In the winter there were kept busy skinning and stretching hides as a source of income. Dar had a great fondness for fishing.

Education was a must for Shelley and they made their move to Emo. In 1983 Dar became the steward of the Emo Legion until October 2017. Being a member of Branch 99 she also had many hours volunteering for the club and also recruiting Stu to peel bushels of potatoes and deboning fish for legion events among other helping hands.

Dar being an avid competitor met many friends and acquaintances through curling, baseball, card games more often than not bringing home a prize. Playing bingo and slots were also a favorite pastime.
Lake and family gatherings will not be the same without her wild rice casserole which was enjoyed by all. Her sense of humour and entertainment at functions will be missed by many friends and family.

Dar was predeceased by her parents Chesley and Dorothy Elliott and Aunt Reta who raised the family after her mother’s passing in 1949, brothers Lawrence, Lyle, George, Cecil, Allan, brother in laws George Meyers, John Wolff, Arnold Kaemingh, John Dyck, mother and father in law Dolly and Jack Bruce, brother in law James (Letitia) Bruce, nephews Larry Elliott and Corporal Dan Elliott.

Left behind to cherish her memory, her husband Stu of 56 years and daughter Shelley (Mark) Allen of Devlin, her siblings Josie Dyck, Denise (Dwight) Becker, Norma, Herb (Marvel) Elliott, Judy Kaemingh, Oscar Elliott (Bev), sister in law Maxine Elliott, Darlene Elliott, numerous nieces and nephews and her adopted brother from Texas, Kay(Doris) Dyal, friends for over 60 years.
A memorial will be held in Dar’s memory on Sunday November 1, 2020 from 2-4 p.m. at the Emo Royal Canadian Legion. Covid guidelines will be observed.
If desired memorial donations may be made in Dar’s memory to the Emo Royal Canadian Legion Branch 99 or the Riverside Palliative Care Unit, by cheque c/o Northridge Funeral Home , Box 89, Emo, ON P0W 1E0.
