Obituary for Dalton Lyle Taylor
It is with heavy hearts that we wish to share the passing of Dalton Lyle Taylor on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, after a brief illness.
Dalton was born on June 29, 1931 in Fort Frances, Ontario. He graduated from Fort Frances High School and attended business college in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As a youth, he was the man of the house while his father was in the service, delivered papers for the FF Times and the Winnipeg Tribune; delivered groceries (on a bicycle) for the Food Basket and Shop Easy and worked as a bull cook and guide on Lake of the Woods. After graduation Dalton worked as a lineman for Ontario Hydro before joining his father’s electrical business.
His father Darold operated D.M. Taylor Electric on Scott Street where he worked for 20 years. After the store closed, he operated his own electrical contracting business for another 20 years until his retirement in 1990. He also owned and maintained several rental properties over the years.
Dalton was active in the community and was past President of the Kinsman Club and spearheaded Fort Kinhaven. He also served 12 years on the Fort Frances Board of Education and was Chairman for eight years. Dalton was also past President of the Association for Community Living and did volunteer work for the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau.
Dalton was predeceased by his wife Anita Lea in 2013, his parents Darold Marvin and Cora Bertha Taylor and sister Marlene Danby (Dobranksy).
Dalton is survived by his son, Donald Andrew Taylor, grandson Donovan Matthew Taylor, baby sister, Sharon Debenedet and several nephews. He is also survived by his companion, Lydia Sharp and extended family.
One of his favorite places to unwind was at the family cottage on Rainy Lake, where there was always a project on the go.
Dalton was extremely proud of his grandson, Donovan’s swimming accomplishments and was a volunteer time keeper for the local swim meets so that he could have “the best seat in the house” to see his grandson compete.
In accordance with Dalton’s wishes cremation will take place with interment at the Fort Frances Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Thursday August 18, 2022 at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, in memorium donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
