Obituary for Carol Vera Diane Wolanicki (Race)

Carol Vera Diane Wolanicki

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Carol Vera Diane Wolanicki on October 1, 2020 at the Rainy River Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Mom was born November 22, 1942 in Rainy River to William and Anne Race, she was the third child. Mom grew up and stayed in Rainy only moving from one side of the road to the other.

Mom married the love of her life Stan Wolanicki on August 18, 1960 and celebrated their 60th Anniversary together. They raised five children.

Mom went to work after her children were born. She started at Artic Cat and continued on to Weatherwear. Mom was a long-time member of the Rainy River Ladies Legion Auxiliary.

Mom was an avid gardener, you could always find her doing something outside in her flower beds (which she had plenty of) or out in her garden (which was always a success).

Mom loved their cabin, she spent so much time out there, looking out over the water watching all the animals. She also loved driving around with dad watching and looking for wildlife out in the fields.

Mom always looked forward to spending time with two of her grandchildren. She loved going to the Pumpkin Patch with Samantha Chmilnitzky (Jewett) and she loved watching movies with her grandson Dallas Jewett. She was also looking forward to meeting her great grandchild. Samantha`s baby is due in February. She was very involved in her grandchildren`s lives and never missed their birthday or Christmas without calling and giving them a card.

Mom is survived by her husband Stan of 60 years, her sons Gene, Ernie, Brad and Orville, her only daughter Loretta Jewett (David) as well as 12 grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings Judy Miller, Janet Hughes, (Dana Kaliska), Ken Race (Jeanna), Rose Tiede (Rick), Valerie Race and half-sister Kay Roehling, sister-in-law Ruth Wolanicki, along with many nieces and nephews.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Bill and Anne Race, her brother Bob, brother-in-law Frank, sister-in-law Jessie, her grandparents, aunts, uncles, mother-in-law and father-in-law, two infant sisters Marie and Lindy.

In honor of mom’s wishes there will be no funeral service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

In Memoriam donations may be made to the Rainy River Hospital Auxilliary or the Riverside Foundation (Chemo Unit) by cheque c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89, Emo, Ontario, P0W 1E0 .
