Obituary for Carol Evelyn Burnell (Robinson)

It is with broken hearts that the family announces the passing of Carol Evelyn Burnell, 77 of Finland Ontario, on July 7, 2022 at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. Carol was born on July 14, 1944 in Fort Frances, Ontario to Alex and Hazel Bruce. Carol was raised by her grandparents Lillian and Ernie Robinson in Finland on the farm, then spent a short time living and going to school in Thunder Bay. When she returned home Carol started working in Nestor Falls at the age of 15. There she met a man that caught her eye, Oscar Burnell. They were joined in marriage on August 25, 1960 at the United Church in Emo. It wasn’t long before Carol and Oscar moved to Finland where they started raising their family. On the weekends when Oscar was working in the bush Carol enjoyed packing up the family and taking them to the bush to pick pinecones for the ministry. Also spending countless hours making tags for core boxes for Nuinsco Resources, as well as making pillows and quilts and selling them at craft sales. She was very hard working and didn’t always have things come easy. Carol was a woman whose life revolved around her family. She enjoyed seeing her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren together.

Carol was a very outdoorsy person. She loved being outside, whether it was traveling the back roads in Finland, hunting partridge in the fall, to scouring the forest looking for blueberries. She always seemed to know the best blueberry patches. She loved being in her garden or taking their camper and heading to the lake. She loved to sew, make crafts and being a part of any group that she attended. She leaves a legacy of love, hard work and laughter that will be carried through her family. She also has a large extended family that includes her sewing friends that she spent countless hours with.
Years after Oscar passed, Carol was fortunate enough to meet a fellow by the name of Donnie Munro. It was good to see that spark come back into Carol’s eyes and together they started a new chapter. They enjoyed spending countless hours camping, gardening, watching the races and enjoying each other’s company. They especially loved spending Friday nights at the Legion visiting with friends and dancing the night away.
Carol is predeceased by her parents Alex and Hazel Bruce, her grandparents Lillian and Ernie Robinson, sister Beverly Watts and loving husband Oscar.

Carol will be greatly missed by her children Robert (Tami), Kenneth, Beven, Jennifer (Troy), her grandchildren Ashlie (Craig), Melissa (Chris), Shaun (Meghan), Julie, (Matt), Cole, Meadow, Oscar, Harley, Jerry (Jen), Cory (Julia), and her great grandchildren Leah, Even, Alexa, Adalynn, Layla, Cecelia (CC), Gianna, Charley, Sasha, Damen, Izair, and Axel.

Carol is also survived by her sister Betty and her best friend Donnie Munro who will miss her greatly.

A service of celebration of remembrance will be held at the Emo Christian Reformed Church on Saturday July 16, 2022 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow at the Emo Royal Canadian Legion. Interment Barwick Cemetery.
