Obituary for Bryan Anthony Bryk

It is with great sadness the family announces that Bryan Anthony Bryk (Bish) passed away peacefully at home on August 9, 2022, at the age of 76.

Bryan was born in Kenora, Ontario on October 3, 1945, to Tony and Hannah Bryk. At the time Kenora was the closest hospital to Whitemouth Manitoba, where they lived. Bryan moved to Atikokan, Ontario in 1949, when he was 4 years old with his parents and big sister Sharon. In 1959, Bryan was surprised when his mom came home with a new baby brother (Todd) for him. For Bryan, this was the beginning of a long and loving relationship. They played many sports together and were very close friends.

On June 14th, 1969, he married Susan (Cox) in Atikokan. Together they had two sons Ryan and Todd. He was very proud of each of their accomplishments.

Bryan loved the outdoors. He was an avid golfer, baseball player and fisherman. Bryan fished the Atikokan Bass Classic for many years and won 3 titles with his brother Todd in 1992, 1996 and 2003.
Bryan worked at various jobs over the years, but working as a welder’s helper on the pipelines was one of his favourites. Bryan hurt his back in 1984 which stopped him from doing this work and rather than retraining, he chose to open and operate Bish’s Taxi from 1986 until 2011. The taxi business was a good fit for Bryan, he got to meet and talk to people from all walks of life.
After retirement, you could find Bryan down at the legion, where he was playing cards or just chatting with his friends. There was never a dull moment with Bryan around with his many stories and jokes that he could tell.

Bryan spent most of his life living in Atikokan and raising a family. At times work took him to other places around the country, but he always called Atikokan home.
Bryan is survived by his wife Susan, sons Ryan (Kelly), Todd (Kimberley) and brother Todd (Annette) and sister-in-law Haladee Chumway-Cox. He is also survived by his grandchildren Hannah, Avery, Madison, and Nathan as well as numerous nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces. Bryan loved his family and friends deeply although he sometimes had a difficult time expressing it.
Bryan was pre-deceased by his parents, his sister Sharon and her husband Dave Sargent, brother-in-law Bob Cox and sister-in-law Velma Riordon (Cox).

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church hall at 170 Hemlock Avenue (corner of Hemlock & Willow). Should friends desire, donations can be made in memory of Bryan to a charity of their choice
