Obituary for Ann Vanderaa (Van Uden)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ann Vanderaa of Emo, Ontario on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 surrounded by her family.
Ann was born on March 27, 1933 in Bakel, Holland. She had three brothers and three sisters. In 1950 Ann came to Canada with her family and settled in St. Eustache, Manitoba. She worked at the hospital in Portage La Prairie and met John when his family moved to St. Eustache when she was 18. John and Ann were married in 1957. Ann then joined John in Melita before moving to Winnipeg in 1959. She worked at the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg until they had their first child. Marty was welcomed in 1961 and John then transferred to the Fort Frances hospital when Marty was three weeks old. They settled in Emo and purchased their farm on Lash Road in 1963. They then welcomed four more children – Anthony, Tim, Rick and Jackie.
Ann was a stay at home mom and looked after the farm during the day while John was at work. She loved tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and enjoying tending to their lawn. She loved the visits from her numerous nieces and nephews to the farm over the years. She treated them like her own and continued telling us all the adventures they had at the farm. Ann’s grandchildren and great grandchild were very special to her and nothing put a smile on her face as quickly as a visit with them. Ann and John loved to go for rides in the country and stopping for ice cream along the way. They were married for 64 years until John’s recent passing in November.
Ann is survived by her children Anthony (Cheryl) of Emo, Tim (Anne Marie) of Emo, Rick (Angie) of Emo, Jackie Hailstone (Sean) of Kenora and daughter in-law Vicki Dorie. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren Melissa, Alyssa, Adam, Noah, Wyatt, Michael, Morgan, Liam and Olivia; and great-grandson Kane. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John, her son Marty and great-granddaughter Addilyn.
Private Funeral mass to be held Tuesday February 15, 2022 at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Interment to take place at a later date.
