It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Almer Godin (88) of Rainy River at his residence on November 26, 2018.
Almer was born to George & Mary Godin in Rainy River on March 22, 1930. In his younger years Almer worked as a guide on Lake of the Woods for various resorts. Then Almer became a lineman for Ontario Hydro & went to work for the Town of Rainy River. He worked as a lineman and foreman for the Town of Rainy River for 27 years until his retirement in Jan 1991.
Almer loved the outdoors. Hunting & fishing were his passions. Almer went hunting & fishing every chance he had with his family and friends. He passed these family traits down to his children & grandchildren. When Colin & Sharilynn Woods became owners of the bake shop in Rainy River, Almer didn’t miss too many days of going for coffee and catching up on local news with his friends. He enjoyed every minute.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Larry (Sherri) Best of Chetwyn, BC, Linda (Roger)Bell of Milton, FL, Bill (Nell) Godin of Devlin, ON, Dennis Godin of Thunder Bay, ON, Danny (Stacey) Godin of Unity, SK, Brad (Kari) Godin of Rainy River, ON : all his grandchildren, great grandchildren, his sister Irene (late Fred) Connon of Calgary AB and his numerous nieces and nephews.
Almer was predeceased by his parents, George & Mary Godin, the love of his life Evelyn (wife 2009) and nine siblings.
A celebration of life & fellowship will be held in Almer’s memory at the Rainy River Royal Canadian Legion on Monday December 3, 2018 from 1 – 3 p.m. A Private Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
